The Colorado Outdoor Sports Center, one of the largest indoor sports venues in the country, will receive a new roof this summer.
The center, located in a former hotel on the campus of Colorado State University in Fort Collins, will be the first indoor facility in the nation to receive the $50 million, $60 million, and $80 million federal grants, according to a press release from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The new roof will also provide additional space for a number of programs and events, including the COSTE Sports Science and Performance Academy, a sports science and performance program that provides sports training and education for students, according the release.
The centers budget will also increase by $3 million.
The Colorado Avalanche will continue to use the center, but will have a new tenant to help it pay for other operations.
The facility’s construction is slated to begin this summer and open in 2019.
The new roof provides space for the COSTCO Center, a $20 million indoor facility on campus, to expand its activities.
