The American Outdoor Sport Center (AOSC) is located at the corner of Third and E Streets NW in the heart of Washington, DC.
Its main goal is to create an environmentally friendly outdoor recreation experience for all those who love sports, as well as their families.
AOSC provides facilities for all levels of recreational activity, including: hiking, cycling, skiing, and cross-country skiing.
The organization is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, and relies on donations to pay for operations.
Here are some ways you can get involved.
Become a member: AOSc members can volunteer at its facility, and can help pay for maintenance, rent and utilities, as needed.
A $10 donation to the AOSCs Annual Fund helps keep the building operational and allows the organization to cover costs for its programs and staff.
Become an employee: Employees at the AOC are paid $9.50 an hour to work at the facility.
This is the same hourly rate that a retail store worker would receive, but includes health benefits and paid sick days.
Become part of a community: AOC also offers a number of programs that benefit members, like mentoring and leadership programs.
The AOC is a part of the Washington D.C. Outdoor Recreation Alliance, which is a nonprofit organization that supports the sport and recreation of Washingtonians.
The D.CEA has also partnered with the AOAC to host its annual Winter Olympics in 2021, and AOC has partnered with Washington’s Mayor’s Office to help fund the construction of the Olympic Village in 2018.
You can find out more about the AOSP, and support the AoSc through its annual fund, on its website.
