Ohio State football players will be banned from outdoor sports for three years

A slew of Ohio State and Penn State football player will be placed on probation for three consecutive years starting next summer, athletic director Gene Smith announced Tuesday.

The three-year ban will be effective after Sept. 30, 2021.

Smith said the players will not be allowed to participate in outdoor sports during the three- year probation period.

Smith said he will not disclose details of the punishment.

The university and the players’ association have been at odds over the players participation in games and other sports, which have been banned since the beginning of the season.

Penn State’s athletic director and a former NCAA investigator told the AP on Monday that the players have been given ample opportunities to correct their conduct.
